Sports are important because they promote physical and mental health, build character and life skills, and foster social connections. Physically, they improve fitness and reduce disease risk, while mentally they reduce stress and anxiety and build confidence. Socially, sports teach teamwork and discipline, and create lasting friendships and a sense of community.
Tell us about you and sports. What is your sport? Are you a fan or player? What does your sport (or sports in general) mean to you or your family? Do you coach, officiate, play, watch? What personal memory do you have? What’s the greatest sports moment you’ve been a part of? How have you seen sports impact society?
The preliminary plan is to divide the book into chapters based on each sport. Keep your poem to 45 lines, including breaks, or fewer. We reserve the right to edit poems so that they conform to our style sheet and thereby reflect a consistent style within the collection. Please do not send previously published work or work you have sent elsewhere. The selection and editing process will take some, so you may not hear from us for a month or two.
The deadline is 6 p.m. EST February 21, 2026, the date of the first full slate of spring training baseball games. The goal is to celebrate this book at a baseball-themed open mic in Connecticut. Contributors will be invited to read in person, or submit a video reading. Details to follow.
