Pigeon

Pigeon

I feel better today. My head
is clear; my socks are clean; my appetite
has returned, and there’s yogurt in the fridge.
That mess with the pigeon has been cleaned up.

There are elements of this world
that cats and automobiles would deny,
winged things that seem to flaunt their ability
to fly and eat food from any surface.

I have no money to order a pizza,
but I’ll be fine. There’s instant oatmeal
(though nothing is as instant as thought
or these changes in the weather.) It’s better

to be a hammer than a nail
according to that Peruvian folk song.
