Fallen Leaf

Fallen Leaf

On my walk today I bent
to pick up a leaf, still golden,
with patterned veins that spoke
to me of its spring birth,
the joy of a heated summer,
and now a vibrant fall,
I was entranced, happy for its
journey, sad for the days
to come when gold would
turn to brown and it would
descend to mulch.
