Longing for Nature

Longing for Nature

Sometimes, when the cold
shrouds me with its freezing breath,
I long to escape into the warmth
of a forest's hug. Perhaps
I'll find a cabin there to watch
the yolk of a sun dissolve into the clouds as night draws the curtains
above the treetops. Perhaps
I'll stop and think of myself
in this place, alone with nature,
away from the glare of the city
with its lights chasing me like wolves. Perhaps I will stop
to understand perfection
when there is nothing but the calm
of a dewy morning rising
like a prayer.
