The Nature of Things

The Nature of Things

the problem is one of space
of leaving air
open

I do it
and you fill it

I have done it for so long that now
as I reassemble
and color returns to my face

you aren’t sure
where to sit
or what part of the air to breathe

but the air is mine now—
the space
is
mine

I am like a stranger
you say
and you’re right

but
let’s
keep
her
